Mom Was Right. Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables!

Yes, as comes up often in these blogs, our moms were correct (at least about eating your fruits and vegetables!) That's right. Fresh fruits and vegetables, deep sea fish like salmon, eggs, healthy fats like avocado, and dark chocolate.


This isn't a food lecture, it's a beauty tip!


As you may have gathered from this blog, one of the reasons we started this company is because we want to change people's minds about aging, anti-aging, and how to achieve youthful skin as we get older. These are tools to live a great quality of life, that allows us to shine on the outside, as much as we do on the inside.


Aging, like anything else, is holistic.




What's holistic?
ho·lis·tic: characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.

Many beauty companies want you to believe that your skin will magically be better if you just __(fill in the blank)_____ .


Don't get me wrong. All of anti aging tools are important and wonderful, but as we learned in the last post, wrinkles aren't just about moisture, cleansing or procedures. We also need to address muscle memory and loss of collagen, as well as a healthy lifestyle.

What do I mean by this?


Back to that word, HOLISTIC. The big picture. It's what you eat. How well hydrated you are. How much rest you get (Lights out before 10 please!) How you manage your stress. How much physical activity you get. Your skin, the largest organ in your body, is a protector. It's the first line of defense you have against dirt, viruses, bacteria and more. Your skin's visual appearance is a representation of how well you've cared for your body on the inside. And guess what, if you haven't been taking great care of yourself, it's never too late to start.


The more I learn about holistic living, I am fascinated by the fact that you can eat foods that are naturally anti-aging. Berries, dark leafy greens, salmon, eggs, nuts, avocados. They all are healthy, anti-inflammatory, and NATURALLY BOOST COLLAGEN. On the flip side, there are certain things you eat that can cause inflammation in your gut, and dry out your skin thus aging you inside and out: coffee, sodas, sugar, high sodium, greasy or processed foods, over consumption of baked goods (yes even "gluten free" baked goods). Stick to whole, natural foods. The less ingredients the better! Your body and skin will thank you for it decades from now!


I care about each and every person that is in this community and I can't impart enough to you that skincare is a lot of moving parts, that all come back to, taking care of you.

You can drink less coffee in the morning and replace it with tea. Opt for fresh fruit instead of baked goods. Drink water instead of that second glass of wine. Set an alarm to turn off the lights by 10p. Walk instead of drive. Take deep breaths when you're stressed and have a mini meditation instead of reacting to whatever the stresser may be.
