The Real Reason We Get Wrinkles...That no one will ever tell you.

Updated: Jun 30, 2019

Ah, those pesky facial folds and creases that show in our mid to late 30s and seemingly NEVER GO AWAY. They have strange names, too, like nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and "elevens," which don't make them any better.

So how are wrinkles formed? The most common answers to this question are sun exposure, smoking, and lack of hydration.

That's correct, but only partially correct.

The real answer is… Loss of Collagen and Repetitive Facial Expressions

Put simply:

Moisturizer = GOOD. Use it.

Sunscreen = GOOD. Use it.

Not smoking = GOOD. Don't ever.

Healthy Food = GOOD. Back away from the chips and sugar.

You see, around the age of 30, our collagen production starts to decline.

Collagen is a nifty thing. Just as it builds structure for your body, allowing your joints and tendons to flex and move, and keeping your skin supple and hydrated. Essentially, collagen is what allows your skin to "spring back" to where it should be. Don't be fooled by products with collagen! The structure of topically applied collagen is too large to be absorbed by our skin.

Repetitive facial expressions: These are all the expressions you make: Laughing, squinting, furrowing your brow, scowling, frowning, smiling, even crinkling your face while sleeping. Every time you change your expression, tiny grooves form on the skin and underlying muscles.

So, over time, collagen fibers break down, your skin stops springing back, and… you've got wrinkles, babe. It's muscle memory at it's finest. Most skincare companies won't tell you these facts because they want you to buy their cleansers, creams and moisturizers. We absolutely need to have a good skincare routine, but moisture, masks, cleansers, and toners alone, can't stop wrinkles, and we need another tool.

Between biology and just living our lives, we train our skin to form those lines! Now, it’s time to retrain it. When we want to get our bodies fit, we go to the gym, right? You wouldn't put just lotion on your legs and hope to get defined quads. Your face is no different! You gotta work those muscles.

I am in no way advocating a stop to any good skincare routine. Petals don't replace your skincare routine, but they enhance it! Your skin needs a little something "extra" to seal in the moisture, smooth skin, and teach it and the underlying muscles to relax and lay flat. Up until now, Botox was the only other alternative.

That's why our Facial Smoothing Petals are so awesome. They take advantage of muscle memory and, over time, retrain your skin, without the pain and expense of Botox and fillers. Think of it as a workout for your face. Wrinkles don’t have a chance.

So what will you do with your newfound knowledge? Drop me a line, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

xoxo, Lara
